| This is my first post to the group. So hi everyone. I also had tons of problems with recompiled 2.4.24 and alsa. In my case, it happened after upgrading gcc from 3.2 to 3.3. Put a long story short, problems were eventually solved by downloading alsa 1.0.1 source from -current, recompile and install. You have to do this while running 2.4.24. Good luck. ian NeoSadist wrote: > Ok, I'll try to document what I did for your amusement, you tell me what I > did wrong. I found that dmesg was saying this: i810: Intel ICH2 found at IO 0xef00 and 0xe800, MEM 0x0000 and 0x0000, IRQ 10 i810_audio: Audio Controller supports 6 channels. i810_audio: Defaulting to base 2 channel mode. i810_audio: Resetting connection 0 ac97_codec: AC97 Audio codec, id: ADS96 (Analog Devices AD1885) i810_audio: AC'97 codec 0 Unable to map surround DAC's (or DAC's not present), total channels = 2 Which could be why alsa had a hard time working. But oh well, OSS modules work fine....
