I doubt it. Gnucash's dependencies are elephantine, but there is a
website specifically for gnucash on Slackware, and it is very well
done. I've built gnucash 1.8.8 using them and had no difficulty other
than having to move the slib directory one level up from where the
instructions said to put it (to /usr/share/guile, and not
/usr/share/guile/1.6.)

Another alternative is to use FreeBSD: Dial in to my ISP, cd to
/usr/ports/finance/gnucash and type "make". Using this method I was
able to do two things at once: build gnucash and sleep.

Actually, he did. Or, at least he did what is considered equivalent
in this ng: he provided a Googlable pattern that was equiv to the
"PROGNAME". This might not have been obvious to everyone, but then
unobviousness to 'newbies' is an AOLS virtue, isn't it?
