Default I feel so dirty (heh, heh, heeeeeh)

I'm sitting here on a Doze 'puter, posting with butthook distress,
being routed through DHCP and IP masquerading on Slack 9.1 that
I configured "myself" (actually, the HOWTO writers configured it
for me), in the process learning enough network stuff that I'm
qualified to go out and troubleshoot and fix windows networks. :-)

I get such a perverse thrill seeing a Windoze comp. being served by
a Linux comp. - kind of breaks the chain, so to speak. Or maybe not.
[I can hear it now --- "RTFM 'firewall'!!!") :-) Oh, well. My mind
works in mysterious ways. ;-) ]

Cheers!
Rich

Well, sounds as if you would be qualified to even run the largest
networks, you shouldn't waste your time with some low cost M$
boxes.

BTW
What was your question again?

Why would one need to ask a question?

I get some funny looks at school in my CS class running Linux. Of the
probably 100 students in the class, about fifteen have laptops with
them. Of those fifteen, I've seen one other running Linux. He was
running KDE at the time, though.

They're all using full featured wordprocessors to take their notes in
class. All but the KDE dude use Word. The KDE dude was using KWord.

Although... honestly.. I'm not much better, taking notes in kate. :-)

I've found it isn't really very easy to troubleshoot Windows problems
with a Linux laptop, working remotely. LNX-BBC, however, lets me go in
and fix most things. For instance, a WinXP box with a dying hard
drive... I scp'd the whole thing to my server. I just wish NTFS-write
support was a little bit more mature since everybody is running NTFS
these days... meaning I need to be *in* Windows in order to remove
viruses. :-\

If you have a "full-featured wordprocessor" on your machine, why
would you use any other program to take notes? What is there to be
gained by using a program with fewer features to take notes?

This is the kind of silliness that seems to run rampant in this ng.

cordially, as always,
