Default Taking the plunge; ISP dsl -> self hosting. Pointers welcomed.

Finally decided to stop putting up with crappy ISP services and
manage my own domain. Domain name is registered and now I need
to plan the conversion.

I have the DNS-Howto, Domain, some old a.o.l.s threads from google
for studying. Also the IP-Aliasing howto.

Comparing sendmail and postfix, think I'm going with postfix. Got
the book by Rich Blum and downloaded the latest source. (I'll put the
finished package out if anyone is interested)

So I have DNS, mail, ftp, www servers to setup. DNS is the only one
I haven't done in about 10 years. Any pointers or gotcha's appreicated.

Opinions sought -- What would be the best way to go about dealing
with news? I read a limited number of groups. All text. (no binary
groups)

Leafnode, without a doubt. I use it so I have my own spool I can
access from wherever I happen to be. With a 20GB partition I keep
60 days worth of posts in 30-40 groups, and only use about 10% of
the space.

Not me, I'm very happy with Sendmail+PostgreSQL.

I use and like INN.
