That's odd. I thought that was exactly what these so-called "self_appointed cops" were trying to say to the trolls. These guys are not bullies. I don't know how much more patiently we can explain it. When you come in and ask a question that's been asked 20 times, that's really so simple that # find / -name "*<what your question is about>*" -print will yield your answer, or, failing that, http://www.google.com, type your question in the text box, and 99 times out of 100, the answer turns up on the first page. Yes, seeing that level of laziness does kind of pique some folks' ire. But a gentle reminder does not a bully make. If anything, the trolls are aspiring to bullyhood and panic when they see just how dramatically outclassed they are. And I haven't even mentioned the real trolls - heck, just asking, if you're a newbie, someone saying, "type your question into google" _is_ the answer. Or at least, _an_ answer. We're gratified when one of you comes unto us, and speaketh: "I took your advice, oh Great Guru, and Lo and Behold! Success!" ¿:-> But the ones who just come in and drop insults and try to pick fights will be dealt with in the manner that's appropriate to the emotional age that they've shown by their words they're stuck at. It's pretty much that simple. Of course, when the 2- or 3-year-old inner child hears "Grow Up!", he/she goes from panic to panic^2, and almost no course of action at that point really is very productive to anybody, except maybe palliation. I'd be happy to do that, if it would work. Oh, well, I pontificate. Cheers! Rich |

Find your own answer for your own set up and your own liking thing. It is the insult and flaming which is not appreciated. |

| AJ wrote: > It is the insult and flaming which is not appreciated. So your dream is to ban flaming on the net??? Well, good luck to you accomplishing this. But this makes me laugh, really. Insults??? Well, on the street you could punch the fscker, here you can't so you have two options, you can ignore and get on with your life or you can insult back and get on with your life. You can not have freedom in slices, it comes with "the bad" and "the good". Why in quotes? Because bad and good are very relative and subjective things. Do I have the right to be an arsehole - yes, I do! Do you have the same right - yes, you do! Do you have the right to ignore me - yes, you do! Do you have the right to insult me back - yes, you do! Are we all different - yes, we are! Can we all live in peace - no, we can't, it's a utopia! Do you think that me or others care about you not appreciating insults, I don't think so. Maybe some feel sorry but some don't, some might object and get angry but some just don't care of find it funny or amusing Welcome to the real free world with lots of different people! -- Jabber: molchun@jabber.org PGP ID: 0x304563A8 |

It comes with the territory- Especially on something so "rough and wild" as Usenet. As has been (more patiently than i would have) explained to you, repeatedly, the groups 'mood' tends to reflect that of the original querant. If a person comes here and asks a question, politely, and shows that they aren't simply interested in a "handout" by demonstrating that they've done a bit of research beforehand, they're almost certainly going to get a favorabble response. If, on the othehand, all they do is pisss and moan about why they aren't gettting a free lunch, well then, that's all the incentive needed to poke fun at 'em a bit. In the end, it's all just words. Stop acting like some kinda wanna-be "martyr", rallying the "troops" to do 'battle" with _your_ /perceived/ "enemies" and I'll bet you find things much more to your likings around here. I do not care. I don't care much for arrogant "arsehole"s either. This isn't nice. This is not macho. This does not make your dick look bigger for those who are not happy with their penis size. No thanks. I'll pass. Don't need it. I'd still hang out here though. I enjoy reading good majority of posts and I would help others when appropriate and when I can. > Then again, I'm still going to be a fucking grump. I know. Once This is *not* enough, unfortunately, and against human nature. Living in utopical peace of yours would wipe out natural selection hence progress in the human world and will lead to extinction in the animal world. I'm not saying we have to kill each other (although it's part of the package too). There are all sorts of methods to pressure and inforce your opinion, ten centuries ago we killed now it's not necessery anymore since there are other ways: low, economical sunctions etc. Although US seems to practice old methods together with new. > there was a civil war in this United States. But nobody cares whether you agree or disagree because nobody has any respect for your opinion. You don't have a unique point of view. Your opinions are shaped by the prevailing mindset of the common man and whatever is mediocre or mundane is what you espouse. Nobody cares about what you say. > This is *not* enough, unfortunately, and against human nature. > Living in utopical peace of yours would wipe out natural > selection hence progress in the human world and will lead to > extinction in the animal world. What kind of simplistic world view is this? Utopical? Some people think that "progress" is the machine that drives so-called "natural selection." What do you say to them? Or have you even considered the ramifications of the terms you throw around? > I'm not saying we have to kill each other (although it's part of > the package too). Wow. The history of sociology/law laid out in one paragraph. Law and economic sanctions predate "10 centuries ago." People are still killed. What are you trying to say?
