Slack seems to be about the only version of Linux that has trouble creating lilo. It seems that even with 9.1, a lot of people are getting there screens filled with 99s. I'm working with 8.1, but from what I've been reading, 9.1 isn't any better. I have installed several versions of linux lately, knoppix 3.3, mandrak 9.0, morphix lightgui, phlax. Only slackware has this problem. I also had to try and run xf86config, again slack is the only version that won't set up the gui. I couldn't get xf86config to work because slack can find my usb mouse. |

I'm running Slackware 9.0 on four machines, and have /never/ had a problem with lilo or LILO. I don't think you can make the blanket statement that Slackware is the only version of Linux having trouble with lilo, because Slackware (in my experience) /doesn't/ have a problem with lilo. (many of which do not appear to be about this error, btw.) when i search for 'linux lilo 99' i get about 380 hits. sure, it's hardly scientific evidence, but it seems to indicate that the problem is not limited to slackware. > I have installed several versions of linux lately, knoppix 3.3, > mandrak 9.0, morphix lightgui, phlax. I had a LOT of problems with several OTHER distro's, but that does not mean everyone has... I found Slackware a refreshing change from the other distro's in fact in it's simplicity and knowledgeable user base. If you have a specific problem with a Slackware install or configuration, I have no doubt you will you will obtain an answer in a timely fashion if you make an effort to ask an answerable question <ahem>. -- Regards garbage garbagedisposal@despammed.com |

| I run Slack 9.1 on two machines, too. It's just easy to install and use right away, unless you want to screw with X, which isn't a bother at all. A screen full of 9s because of lilo? Then use Grub. -- naSota@tPampabay.rAr.cMom - > (remove 'S P A M') |
