| Hello everybody, I am trying to configure a printer attached to an old PC with the 2.2.16 kernel. dmesg gives the following: parport0: PC-style at 0x378 [SPP] parport_probe: failed parport0: no IEEE-1284 device present I tried to change the parallel port mode settings in the BIOS but in vain. Also, # insmod parport_pc io=0x378 irq=7 didn't help. Can anything be done in this situation or this is a hardware problem and the PC should be left in peace? Regards, Mikhail Zotov |

You can try another kernel and hope for the best. You can also install a simple multi-io card that works with liux to add a second lp port. - -- It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise, Than for a man to hear the song of fools.
