| Hello, I'm looking at buying a Dell PE 600 SC with the PERC4-SC RAID controller and would like to know if anyone has installed Slackware on one of these. Assuming there are drivers for the controller, are they stable enough to use in a business environment? I'd like to use it as a file server and backup for a small group that works with lots of large files. Are there any known issues or gotchas? I googled a bit for this but would really like to hear from someone who has done it before. Any insight appreciated. Louis |

NOT yet, no, but we'll probably be buying those for our new servers. As far as I know the SCSI adapter is Adaptec compatible (might even be a relabeled AIC one). -- ************************************************** ****************** ** Eef Hartman, Delft University of Technology, dept. Sometimes they are LSI Logic ones that use the megraid driver, and sometimes they are adaptec ones that use the aacraid driver. The aacraid ones are a bit more of a hassle to install as the kernel needs recompiling to get the driver in it as its not built in to the standard kernels on the install disk (at least it wasn't on 9.0). I can't say I have had any problems with either in use, they have worked reliablely even on a reasonably well loaded web server. |
