| This might seem like a stupid question but today I decided to try out having 2 monitors with my win2k box. I know win2k sucks but it is the same issue with my linux box also. I have a 2 port KVM switch between my win2k box and linux box. The ATI 7500 Radeon supports 2 monitors with a dvi => vga adapter but it dawned on me that the KVM might cause some issues. When I switch over to the linux box will the secondary monitor on win2k keep getting a signal? I guess what I'm asking before I just set this all up to see what it does is has anybody run into this confiuration? I'm thinking KVM=no dual monitors and I don't think ther are KVM switches that are going to support duel monitors. -- If a man speaks in the woods, and there is no woman there to hear him, is he still wrong? |

When I switch FWIW I did have "issues" with a Radeon 7500 on a KVM. That is, with one monitor shared on the KVM: only one port on the Radeon was connected. I had quite a time trying to get X working. Perhaps it was because the switch was set to the other computer when the driver initialised. I never really figured it out. It just started working. It works now (and the KVM is gone.) > over to the linux box will the secondary monitor on win2k keep > getting a signal? You are sharing a monitor between Win2K and Linux, and in addition the Win2K has a second monitor. Right? It depends on the driver. If it maintains each "head" as a separate display, independent of the other, I wouldn't think the loss of a connection on one head would affect the other head. If I'm wrong, try swapping the connections on the Radeon: put the shared monitor on the secondary head and the dedicated monitor on the primary head. -- /dev/rob0 - preferred_email=i$((28*28+28))@softhome.net or put "not-spam" or "/dev/rob0" in Subject header to reply |

The win2k has radeon 7500 with dual head support. I guess I'll just give it a try tonight issues with KVM and Radeon 7500, weird I never had an issue but perhaps the KVM model was variable. |

My coworker has this working on his machine. Granted he's using an NVIDIA card, but it can be done. The Windows machine just still gets a feed on one monitor. -- It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise, Than for a man to hear the song of fools. Ecclesiastes 7:5 |
