| I want to dual-boot Linux on wife's brand new Toshiba laptop. She loves a card came called Spider Solitare which comes with WinXP. (Wife is disabled and computer games help her "cope" with the pain and being less mobile than the rest of us.) Did some research (so I don't get the crap beaten out of me again :-)). I found this on the Debian site: http://packages.debian.org/stable/games/spider I assume this is a Debian package. Or is it source? Anyway, is it possible to compile this and get it to work on Slack 9.1 without being a guru? (I looked for a Spider package in LinuxPackages but there isn't one.) BTW, does anyone know what file system XP uses??? fat32 or is it ntfs? How can you tell (in XP). Will QTparted work on ntfs? Thanks, Al |

Yes, get alien package from linuxpackages. Alien converts among various types packages including .deb and .tgz. If that fails you can always compile from soruce. > BTW, does anyone know what file system XP uses??? fat32 or is it ntfs? How can > you tell (in XP). Will QTparted work on ntfs? It uses ntfs. About QTparted, never tried it. -- Sandro Mangovski |

Will QTparted work on ntfs? There is a solitaire game called 'xpat2' that includes 16 different solitaire games, one of which is spider. It's an X application and the sources are still findable. If you can't find them, I have them, and also a tgz file you can install. (when I say X application above I mean it was written with XLIB and will run on any desktop) -- Quidquid latine dictum sit, altum viditur. |

Slackware comes with a couple of versions of spider solitaire. One is in the xgames package and one comes with Gnome. They seem to work like the Microsoft version. You don't have to struggle with getting a .deb package to install spider on Slack. |

| You might want to try Pysol (http://www.pysol.org). It's written in python. Runs in any distribution. It has several Spider variations. If you install the sound server with it it plays music while you play... The WinXP file system is ntfs, I believe. It is much better than the Windows version of Spider Solitaire, plus it has about 300 other versions of solitaire. It also has unlimited Undo, multiple bookmarks of position, etc. Great time waster! :-) The latest version (4.82) seems to have lost the best cardset (IMHO) there is a great cardset named 'Standard' in v4.81 that in my opinion is much easier on the eyes. I have the KDE games and while there are a bunch of solitare games, I don't see one that is "Spider." I also have gnome loaded but have never booted to it. Can I run the Gnome game under KDE? Some Gnome apps are runable under KDE. Where ARE the Gnome games located? Al |
