Default distribution picking

I'm trying to find a distribution that will easily install both a printer
and my low-resolution monitor (a standard 640 by 480 vga). I've gone through
three or four in the past week, most recently slackware 9. The monitor
resolution is easy to adjust in slackware, but haven't figured out how to
install my printer (a canon BJC 2000). Corel Linux 1 I couldn't manually
adjust for my prefered monitor, Knopix and Suse 8.1 are both from CD only.
Suse 8.1 installed to hard drive would be great because it even detects and
installs a driver for my printer. I tried
\mount /mnt/cdrom
cd /mnt/cdrom/slackware/ap
installpkg cups*.tgz,

but got a message not available as a *.tgz.

Anyone have any suggestions for getting my printer to work on slackware 9?

Then run pkgtool, select configure, run the services script, and tell it to
enable cups. Or chmod +x /etc/rc.d/rc.cups if you find that easier.

There's a good, small help file for installing cups on slack, look at
www.userlocal.com ...it's done from the cmdline using lpadmin...there's also
a list of files you need to have installed.

Better you read than I explain, however, if you using kde, kde has an app
for setting up cups, kprint, I think, like an install wizard. Also you can
setup your printer from most kde type editors, kwrite, kate etc.

Slack installs the necessary ppd file in /usr/share/cups/models so you
shouldn't have any problems..

There's also this:
http://www.userlocal.com/articles/sl...inting-faq.php
Which, If I recall correctly, is what I used to get my HP710C to work
with Slackwar 8 through to Slackware 9.
