| Hi all. I installed Slackware 9.1 with no problems. Though totally lacking any knowledge of C or C++ I managed to compile some programs and it all works fine (knock on wood). Now, as I have a very slow modem connection, it would be of great help to have source code available on a CD-ROM or DVD. There once was such a thing called "linux complete" at "http://www.coscos.net". But this site doesn't seem to exist anymore; the hompage is there, but it is empty. I googled . Perhaps I could have googled better. Does anyone know how to get something like this or where coscos.net has moved to? TIA, erich -- REPLY-TO: ...[er1ch=erich]...[h0ff=hoff]...[_dot_=.]... |

You can buy it with the installation disks as a four CD set here: http://www.slackware.com/ -- Two Ravens "...hit the squirrel..." |

The boxed set of Slackware 9.1 has source code on CDs 3 and 4. Ordering the 4 CD set from Volkerding would be the easiest way to get it (http://www.slackware.com). |

I got the Slackware 9.1 CD set and it works fine. I meant source code that isn't included, e.g. Squid, wordnet, an office suite &c. E.g. what is on the freshmeat server. This is not at all a complaint about too less software included in the distribution. If sth. like CosCos doesn't exist, I'll invest the time to download. Thanks anyway, erich ps. Of course I read the news howtos, but formulating a clear request (and in a not-my-mother-language) still requires some practice. -- REPLY-TO: ...[er1ch=erich]...[h0ff=hoff]...[_dot_=.]... |

Debian has packages for almost everything, so their source CD's correspondingly would have the source code. Go for unstable, if such thing as "unstable source CD's" exist. 2. Some of those CD vendors might compile their own meta-source CD's. 3. Ask on your LUG for someone to download what you need. I've given shell accounts to some dialup-only users so they can borrow some of my bandwidth. Once one of them made a custom ISO which I burned to CD. So you might ask for a shell account, too. > ps. The FSF sells the "GNU Source CD Set": http://www.gnu.org/order/source18.html However, I guess that most of this software is on the Slackware CDs, too. Georg |

Some of those CD vendors might compile their own meta-source CD's. A good idea, but I still have to do some searching for a special vendor. I looked inside a Woody CD set and into the CDs of a SuSe and a Mandrake distribution, but there wasn't much of source code. Well, this is the first time that I start facing the problem of compiling from source so I don't really know, but I have the impression that some time ago a normal distribution carried her source code with it. Never mind. I cannot expect Mandrake to help me with slackware > > 3. Ask on your LUG for someone to download what you need.
