Default 10, 2.6.7, X.Org, and nVidia graphics...

Well so far I'm loving slackware 10 except for a kinna big problem I've
been having...

It seems as if X.Org is lacking what 3D support I had with XFree86 and
the binary nVidia drivers. I've attempted to run quake3 and it just
crashes without even starting and some other 3D programs start but run
horribly, horribly slow. I also have notice X.Org takes up a lot more
CPU time then XFree86 used to...

I attempted to run the binary drivers a couple of times but it makes my
whole system hang. It'll start to load when I run startx but the screen
simply goes blank and I lose it.

I'm not sure if the nvidia drivers aren't just up to date enough to run
with X.Org but I IMAGINED there wouldn't be much of a
difference...Otherwise it all runs great, but I would like to be able to
run these 3D apps because my system gets kinna boring without my
games... Anyone have any ideas as to what to do or even what's going on?

Don't use the binary drivers. Tell the nvidia installer to compile from
scratch.

And... download the latest drivers that Nvidia released yesterday:
http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux.html

Maybe that fixes things too

Cheers, Eric

Hmm... that's strange.. I run Slackware 10.0 as well, and I installed the
NV drivers and everything works great.. I have the geForce 2 MX/400 64MB
and every game runs great ..

Same for me - Slackware 10, nv drivers with GeForce 4 MX 64, everything
works fine.
