You include stuff you want, exclude stuff you don't. It's built against the exact libraries present on your system at that time. You could add patches, and optimise the binary and whatever else you can think of. Then again, you might screw something up, include something that's not entirely stable or accidently leave out something that you might need. Using the official Slackware packages is definatly the 'safe' way, I guess the decision depends on your definition of 'best'. - -- Bartosz Oudekerk AOLS fortune mod volume VII Get yourself a copy at: <URL:http://www.etv.cx/~bartosz> -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.3 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFA7bKl256ZyNYAOpkRAtaNAJ4zhGC+TwaQgRhCzHlvqy UsRRQUwgCeOc2d rBVEzdKl4rO0EL0iOTAKmB4= =qrjs -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

If they do not give you things the way you want them the next best thing would be to use the buildscript from the Slackware source tree. That way you can upgrade before Pat does or fiddle with the configure. -- If you're going to do something tonight that you'll be sorry for tomorrow morning, sleep late. -- Henny Youngman |
