Default nforce2 problems

I recently installed slackware 10 and it recognizes my nforce audio and
networking hardware. However, I can't get the audio to work. I was having
this problem with windows xp too and was wondering if anyone knew of a
problem with nforce2 audio especially regarding Shuttle XPC cases and
mobos.

No way, it works out of the box. Abit NF7.

It depends on your mother board manufacturer. Abit works perfect, and I
was reading that some Asus mother boards have some problems with Linux
in generally. I can't tell you more as I don't have Asus. If you use
2.6.7, make sure you install 2.6.7 ALSA driver package (it comes with
the distribution) and to uninstall the same package for 2.4.26. Some
people forget to do that.

Alternatevely, you should try to install the new nForce2 drivers.

That's all I know. Hope it helped.

What's up Stanley,

The nForce audio is actually a slightly tweaked version of intel i810 audio.
The i810 Linux drivers (both OSS and Alsa), work just fine with nForce
audio.

Doing a "/sbin/modprobe i810_audio" (w/o quotes) on the command line as root
should load the very capable OSS driver. If you want a bit more
tweakablitly, you can also try the Alsa driver.

I hope the helps,
Dave

For the record, the new nforce drivers work great here (DFI board)... was
using ALSA... nvidia's driver seems a little bit more buggy, but hardware
mixing does work. If you can get sound with aplay, an option might be
messing with an asoundrc to get things working right (with alsa).

Well, I couldn't make'em work, I saw some things about making'em work
with Slack 10.0 but i didn't have time to play with that, and some
people also say that the new drivers are buggy.

Are these drivers only for sound and network card?
I didn't figure that out.

If so, I won't put'em on my machine as I'm hapy with alsa and I don't
need hardware mixing.
