Default Slackware 10.0 and FAT32

Hi,
I have a strange problem.
My system is a Slackware 10.0 with Kernel 2.6.7.
I wrote a large file (300MB) to my FAT32 partition and when I
rebooted, the file disappeared!
Then I wrote a folder with some photos (45) by about 400-500KB,
rebooted, same situation!
There is any known problem?
Thank you

How did you reboot? Did you umount the partition first?

yes i saw the same case one day (not on my computer so didn't have
enough time to look for a solution), i couldn't see my copied files on
the windows fat32 partition. it was the the same on floppies! of course,
the partition/floppies were unmounted before rebooting... if anyone has
an explanation, it could be great to know!

Then my suggestion would be to try to downgrade to the default 2.4.26
kernel and see if that helps. Even though the 2.6-series is supposed to be
stable we must realize that as long as there is no 2.7-series development
version the 2.6 kernels are used as a playground for testing new
technologies. This could bring bugs into the kernel that would belong to a
development version.

Does version 2.6.7 contain any feature that you really need?

Is your machine a dual-boot Linux/Windows system? If yes, you will loose
data from FAT32 partitions as long, as you will keep using the
"Hibernation" feature in Windows. This problem was discussed here some time
ago.
