| The ISO for Slack Linux is not bootable from a home burned CD. Anyone know how to make the CD bootable? I don't have a floppy drive on the laptop I bought and no cash to buy the disk set from Slackware. Any help is much appreciated. -----= Posted via Newsfeeds.Com, Uncensored Usenet News =----- http://www.newsfeeds.com - The #1 Newsgroup Service in the World! -----== Over 100,000 Newsgroups - 19 Different Servers! =----- |

Some drives (especially older ones) will not properly read a CD-R or CD-RW no matter what you do. I've never managed to discover precisely why. |

Did you burn it at the slowest possible speed, to make sure it's compatible with as many CD readers as possible? Did you use a CD-RW and forget to "close" it? > Anyone > know how to make the CD bootable? I have found that some of the older slower CD drives would act this way. The only resort you might have is to go and buy a CD set from Slackware. -- Leo (Bing) Whiteway in Canada: A computer without Microsoft is like a chocolate cake without mustard. < running Slackware 10 > |

| I got my copy of slack 10 from a linux magazine cover cd, they supplied it as 2 iso files, using k3b on suse 9.1 I made cd's from each of the iso files, the first cd boots fine, with this its a case of just right clicking on the file and then selecting make cd with k3b (or something along that line) k3b then loads, runs the checksum routine, then hit start and burn your cd. 1.Make sure you actually make a cd and not just copy the iso file on to a cdr which I did first time, (doh) 2. make sure you set your bios to boot from cdrom first. If that fails, and the suggestions from other users on the newsgroup try contacting your local linux user group and ask if anyone has a copy, if you have a few cdr's handy then people will usually copy stuff for you. Hope this helps. sleep@nite.org wrote: > The ISO for Slack Linux is not bootable from a home burned CD. Anyone know how to make > the CD bootable?
