Not me, but if I had the chance I would be sure to use only the finest
of hand-crafted ASCII in the xorg.conf.

I'd try that right after "X -configure".

Next, if I didn't have it by then, I'd look up (lspci and Google) to
find out what kind of video adapter it has, and if necessary, consult
the X.org documentation for that type of hardware.

If all that failed I'd read
http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html
and maybe post a question in an X11-related newsgroup.
