I compiled it from source without any issues at all. It did do something funny though. If I ran any Java programs it totally locked up X so that I had to do a hard shutdown on my system. I couldn't do anything. I updated java to 1.5 and this seemed to resolve it but if I try to use direct rendering after running java it just brings up a blank black screen.
