| Hello! Slack 10 arrived and was installed for "window shopping" under supervision of working Slack 9.1. Everything looked normal till the time I decided to try X-windowing to check what is new in various wm's. It was behaving "almost as new" till the time that I decided to: rm xorg.conf #exact copy of xorg.conf-vesa cp xorg.conf-fbdev xorg.conf On "startx" the x-system bailed out to textual screen complaining about "ipV6". What's that, as I understand ipV6 is a protocol related to "telephaty" not to playing solitaire on glass panel. To cut long story, mounted "normal" distro under /slak9 and copied XF86Config (related to XF86Config-fbdev), renamed it xorg.conf and things quieted down. Any wisdom on group? TIA Stanislaw Slack user from Ulladulla. |

Copy /root/xorg.conf.new to /etc/X11 and name it xorg.conf. Do this as root. Simple 'su' won't do. (Anyone knows why this is so?) Voilą M'sieu... X is a network oriented system. It always has been. This is so that you use it over a network with several terminals. To get rid of the error your experiencing about the ipv6 all you have to do is recompile your kernel with ipv6 support. This isn't the reason your crashing with X though. You will have to look at your /var/log/Xorg.o.log to know the secrets of your X crash. mAineAc |
