Yes, that would qualify as a bit flaky.

I haven't upgraded yet, so thanks for the heads-up. This presents a real
conundrum as the XFree86 and xorg forks diverge. So far, ATI has shown no
signs of supporting anything other than XFree86.

What to do?

If you have a model up to and including Radeon 9200 the opensource drivers
included with X.org 6.8.0 works fine.

If you want a faster card than 9200, go to
http://www.petitiononline.com/atipet/petition.html
sign up and hope that ATI will show some interest in more customers.
