Default removing apache from slack 10.0 install

I installed slack 10 with pretty much all defaults and I have reason now to
remove apache from my system. Is there a safe and/or reliable way to remove
all of apache? I need to be sure that all references of it are gone from the
rc files as well.

I think I found something here...

pkgtool
pkgtool(8) is a menu-driven program that allows installation and removal of
packages.

I hope this works....

If anyone has a better idea, I'd like to hear it.

- From the pkgtool man page.

This is pretty standard stuff. You should read the Good Book.

I have started reading but haven't gotten to that part yet. This is day 3 of
my slack experience and I really messed things up.

Pkgtool did the job but there are still a lot of apache files left on the
filesystem. Is it safe to simply remove them and reinstall the package?

Speaking from personal experience, that's par for the course. :^)

Define "apache files". Also, how did you install the apache package and
how did you remove it?

There's no need to remove them, reinstalling the package will overwrite them
if they came with the package. If they didn't, then reinstalling them won't
replace them, so removing them is probably not a good idea in any case.

So? You probably forgot to also remove mod_php and mod_ssl.
Also, some of those files are parts of other packages. Your
thinking that any file that contains 'apache' is part of the
apache package is wrong.

If you really want to see the files in a package, list the
tarball's contents. That, plus what's in the doinst.sh script,
will show you everything about the package.

Go for it! What's the worst that could happen?

so after reinstalling the package, things are functioning
normally again (whew)..

I know this next question is a little off-topic but...
What are your thoughts on using CPAN vs. installing from source?

Tom

Three more netiquette lessons:

- --If you're going to start a new topic, start a new thread
with a new subject.

- --If you're going offtopic, mark the subject offtopic ([OT]
is usually acceptable).

- --Try to learn more etiquette before posting again.

CPAN vs. source: There's no difference, since CPAN downloads
the source and runs ./configure && make && make install. If
you want more information on how CPAN works, try the newsgroup
comp.lang.perl.modules.
