| I installed slack 10 with pretty much all defaults and I have reason now to remove apache from my system. Is there a safe and/or reliable way to remove all of apache? I need to be sure that all references of it are gone from the rc files as well. Tom F. |

| I think I found something here... pkgtool pkgtool(8) is a menu-driven program that allows installation and removal of packages. I hope this works.... If anyone has a better idea, I'd like to hear it. Tom F. SEE ALSO makepkg(8), explodepkg(8), installpkg(8), removepkg(8), upgradepkg(8) This is pretty standard stuff. | I have started reading but haven't gotten to that part yet. This is day 3 of my slack experience and I really messed things up. Pkgtool did the job but there are still a lot of apache files left on the filesystem. Is it safe to simply remove them and reinstall the package? Is it safe to simply remove them and reinstall the package? Define "apache files". There's no need to remove them, reinstalling the package will overwrite them if they came with the package. If they didn't, then reinstalling them won't replace them, so removing them is probably not a good idea in any case. Jeffrey |

Also, some of those files are parts of other packages. Your thinking that any file that contains 'apache' is part of the apache package is wrong. If you really want to see the files in a package, list the tarball's contents. That, plus what's in the doinst.sh script, will show you everything about the package.
