Default loopback mail?

Is there such a thing as loopback mail? See here the thing. Newbie,
has slack 10 on standalone running strong. X is up, nvidia is in and I
even just got dvd going and Oh What A Feeling that is

Anyway, to the point, I have no services running except syslog; the
needed updates, shorewall, chkrootkit, logwatch and the shivalik script
are in as well. And now to rap up security I trying to have snort and
tripwire in as well.

Tripwire and Logwatch can send email reports to root but, I have not
been able to set this up and by the way, I'm not sure if it can be done
and still have the level of security that the system now has. One more
thing, X needs to have the --nolisten tcp applied to some config file
but that eludes me as well.
