Default OT: Penguin Abuse?

I was googling google, and accidentally bookmarked this page:
http://www.google.com/options/index.html
and right smack in the middle is "our" penguin, captioned "Special
Searches." Well, I sez, I'm gonna havta look into this one - everybody
remembers the "Special" class ...

So I actually go and check it out. And lo and behold! Look who, right
after god, of course, gets top billing!

Cheers!
Rich

That is an odd page, which could be used on a
scholastic aptitude test.
______________
Which of these does not belong in the list:
1) U.S. Government
2) Linux
3) BSD
4) Mac
5) Microsoft

Thats Googles special search engines you've found. If you search for
e.g. a program and don't want the output polluted by M$ stuff you can
use the Linux search engine:
<URL: http://www.google.com/linux>

This area is designed to become quite warm during normal operation.

It is over rated. Sometimes bsd help sources are more handy than
linux ones when looking for a slack solution.

But I have always liked the Microsoft search picture. Reminds me of
the Orwellian^WTeletubbies. For some reason Big Br^W^WMircosoft
dishing out Tubbie-Toast and telling everyone when it was time for
bed. But then I have my own ideas on how doubleplus good the
Teletubbies are for dealing with people who have child-like minds.

Then again I may just have issues.

Too bad it can't be/hasn't been refined.
The other day I was looking for "screen". One of the best killer apps
ever. Unfortunaly one of the most used words in computers.
And doing a search for 'screen tar.gz' wasn't going to help. I was
looking to see if anyone had ever mentioned the idea of coading a
macro ablity into screen. Think of screen with s-lang or lisp macro
ability. Looking through the screen mailing list it appears no one
has. And I am not that good of a programer.

Next time try freshmeat first, that often helps to narrow down things to
software only.

Googling is more an art than a science. I always find specifying "gnu
screen" secures the correct hits...

Agreed. Slack and *BSD are so Unix-like that what works on one is bound
to get you somewhere on the other. The linux search engine at google
pulls up way too much marketing crap. The BSD search turns up solid
well-written technical articles.
