| Hi, I'm beginning to have quite a lot of Slackware package on my website. Most of them were compiled for i586, using mostly the official script but there is a lot of update and new package like MySQL 4.1.5, OpenOffice.org 1.1.3, Psi 0.9.2, etc. Check the folder: http://ngc891.blogdns.net/slackware/10.0/ News for Slackware: http://ngc891.blogdns.net/index.php?Slackware Regards, -- Jerome Pinot http://ngc891.blogdns.net |

Don't get me wrong, but by and large I see more people mess up their system with LinuxPackages.net than not. Me, I prefer to build everything from source, and that seems to work more often than not. -- Fortune's Real-Life Courtroom Quote #52: Q: What is your name? A: Ernestine McDowell. Downloaded the sources and compiled (roughly 1 hour on my Pentium III 500), and everything went fine. NK |

I just used the official packages, and was not surprised to find that everything was fine :-) Jeffrey |

Me, I prefer to build everything from > source, and that seems to work more often than not. They have done a lot of work recently to improve the quality of the packages submitted to linuxpackages.net. I don't think it will ever be perfect but the checks are more stringent than they used to be. The very few times I have installed a package that had problems it was easily fixed with removepkg. I too prefer to build my own packages from source but I've not had any problems with the few packages I have downloaded from there in the recent past. Generally I just work through creating a build script once and then I can always create an upgrade package with just a couple of line edits thereafter. -- Mark echo znex@ghpxre.arg |rot13 |
