As it is now, people just boot up their linux boxes for news, email and a bit of web-browsing and that's it. cordially, as always, rm -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: PGP 6.5.8 iQA/AwUBQW/kKuEckfDWS6x8EQL0KwCfSY8WBwGqEtIujyMPzMOhOkaL/ZEAn1D/ Eq4EDAPYUmdZBuM0I/t8W6Om =Ao0+ -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

Maybe _you_ consider it cutting edge to have a freshly installed Windows, install graphics and sound drivers, one or two games, surf the web for half an hour and have the first BSOD... ~Mik -- Top-Bottom Programming never gets you where you wanted to go. Got that straight? > which I clearly not intend to appear. Fluxbox with stock style (Twice). Gkrellm full stack on right border in grey with yellow characters and traces (makes it visible outa the corner of my eye). Fbpager just above the stock taskbar and centered runing 8 desktops, shows what's open where but configured in muted grey so not intrusive, dbl-clickable DT change with the mouse. Gnome/KDE/Slang/X gui apps as appropriate, with terminals open and furled everywhere!! > In my view, KDE had too much of it, because I didn't coose every single > item of it. My system now, however only has exactly the amount of eye > candy I chose for it, so I don't see it as exaggerated. Not only does it have far too much, but it's cartoonish as well. Gnome used to be nice, but now it's cutsy-pie too. Still don't have a clue as to WTH good those huge "environments" are anyway. Apps are great, the rest... why?? Used to use IceWM with a "real desktop" (gnome-green.png for BG and E-15 for that leatherbound brass tipped green felt pad look... lol!!), and a full icon task bar at the bottom (single-click!!). Eventually that got old, and Fluxbox hasn't (yet). > So, what do you make of eye candy? If it makes one happy and productive, why not? If it distracts, why? -- Email is wtallman at olypen dot com |
