| -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 It's been awhile since I posted an update on the Good Book here. I've been working on the project on and off as I've had time like always. As of yesterday a Changelog and the first entries in it were added to the website to track our progress (and sometimes lack thereof). Chapters 1 through 3 should be certified gold now. I don't think any broken links remain in those chapters and the information is relevant and current in a clear and concise way. Next up is Chapter 4 which Brian L. Juergensmeyer initially rewrote. I'll be cleaning up all the html in Chapter 4 and updating the chapter to be relevant with the networking changes in 10.0 (such as inet1.conf). I still need some one's help for Chapter 6 (X Configuration) as I'm not great with X. If I get that far and no one's stepped forth we'll just continue on as best we can. For now my plans are to skip the chapter on printers and peripherals unless some one else is willing to offer some help. Particularly I have no experience with CUPS and digital cameras. Since Slackware is going to default to CUPS for the next version, I think it's important that we give it priority over apsfilter and LPRng for now. The new chapter on security will be expanded greatly when I get to that point. If some one would like to add some examples of using ipchains for those people who might be installing Slackware 4.0 on an old machine I would greatly appreciate it. I can handle chapters 14 and 16 myself (formerly spoken for by +Cibao+). If any one who's used ZipSlack before wants to do further work on chapter 17 (which I haven't once looked at) speak up. I may setup a Changelog notification similar to that run by mRgOBLIN at userlocal.net if there's enough interest. I'm hoping that I can get my tail in gear and get somewhere relatively quickly, but I'm not promising anything. After all, FreeBSD 5.3 is due out "real soon now" and will include OpenBSD's pf. One thing that I think should be added to this chapter that I am woefully inadequate to address at this time is the state of wifi networking with Slackware Linux. At this time I don't have a computer with a wifi card that works with linux, and do not wish to purchase one simply for this endeavor. If anyone out there with sufficient experience using wifi nics with Slackware and sufficiently gifted with Clue (Keith?) would pick up this and run with, I'll give you 20 of my personal BOZO points. - -- It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise, Than for a man to hear the song of fools. Doh! I'd love to, but my iBook is now back to OS X-only, and my Slack 10 box doesn't have a wifi card. I've been meaning to put linux back on my iBook, but I've been meaning to do that for months now, so I don't think it'll happen any time soon. I will say that a lot of my initial setup was based on man iwconfig; IIRC iwconfig + normal networking tools (ifconfig/route) were really all that was needed to do 802.11 wifi. - --keith - -- kkeller-usenet@wombat.san-francisco.ca.us (try just my userid to email me) AOLSFAQ=http://wombat.san-francisco.ca.us/cgi-bin/fom -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.4 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQFBeXW0hVcNCxZ5ID8RArLFAJoDtGHFXXhQg81Vqy9ICp iFnzd6PwCeME88 gCSAt9Ri9LzUTIMGwi57/LE= =/dol -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

My qualifications are: (bull) I work at home and am a good researcher. I've become more and more knowledgeable about Linux and Slackware. I have tech writing experience and feel I can present Slackware instructional information in a manner consistent with the straight forward manner that Pat has made a trademark of Slaclware. (/bull) So, whattya say!?[1] [1] Despite humor attempt, I'm dead serious. nb |

Well here's your perfect excuse to do just that! :^) Granted you're not the best case, since Slackintosh never made it to 10.0 anyhow. - -- It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise, Than for a man to hear the song of fools.
