| -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Announcing http://www.slacksec.info SlackSec is an organization composed of a number of Slackware users (mainly from irc.freenode.net) who have decided to be pro-active about maintaining slackware's security during Pat's unfortunate health problems, his regular holiday, and any other occasions on which he may be unable to keep slackware up to date. We can be found in #slacksec on irc.freenode.net. We are currently focusing on Slackware 10, however we aim to provide updates for Slackware 8.x, 9.x, 10.x, and -current. We offer a mailing list, SlackSecML - anyone can subscribe to it, however only maintainers of SlackSec can post to it. There are also customizable RSS feeds. For the curious, we are: AthlonRob Alan Hicks Clavius Frederick Emmott Jurgen We hope this is a useful service, Fred Emmott <mail@fredemmott.co.uk> - -- It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise, Than for a man to hear the song of fools. We can be found in #slacksec on irc.freenode.net. Hrm, you might just give me reason to actually install an IRC client. Actually, PV's illness has made me wish I had the time to code up a little project I've been conceptualizing for a while. The basic concept is a program which automatically queries and parses the websites of application maintainers (for a specified list of applications) looking for the most recent version number and perhaps a release log. Then compare that to the version number on the system and present that information to the user. An automatic 'to-do' list so to speak. Unfortunately I got switched from a web parsing project to another one on campus, so my coding time has been consumed with the new project (rather than using this concept as a prototype for parsing web pages for security context). |

Quite a lot of projects (eg all on sourceforge) offer RSS feeds. We (slacksec) also offer RSS feeds, and I've made feeds for the slackware-10 and -current changeslogs (http://fredemmott.co.uk/rss.php). Aggregating and analyzing these may be an easy way to do what you want. (posting with google because knode head is segfaulting with my current news server, unfortunately it's wrapping makes gpg sigs pointless) |

The whole beauty of slack, as most of you like to point out, is that it is a one-man operation. Now you and a few other trolls are seeking to destroy the one-man operation. If Mr. Volkerding needs help with Slackware he will ask for it. And he will ask for help from people he believes are qualified to help him, not just any yahoo - like you or vulture Hicks - that want to take over. But Mr. Volkerding has not asked for any help so shove it. cordially, as always, rm -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: PGP 6.5.8 iQA/AwUBQZ53AeEckfDWS6x8EQL/xQCdHzrrwb7btxXMD9Ee+qMXPyKoLJIAn3Jc ON+noUQclLZjkgvKfTrElmXQ =z5/y -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

You're a fucking vulture. | 1) We have never said we are official. If we have given that impression, we are not official and we are sorry for misguiding you. 2) Pat has not asked us to help, however there is a need to keep our systems up to date, and we have decided to share our work with others. 3) "Others" are not required to use the site. We are merely advertised the site on the off-chance other people may find it useful. You apparently do not, so your time would be better spent on another thread. |
