| Collegues Thanks Patrick for a great distro ...again. This posting is off topic but I hope it is of interest to many. Bought a copy of Myst Masterpiece Edition on cdrom out of a bargain bin. Obviously it is for PC not Linux. The last game that I ever played on a Microsoft OS was RealMyst (a 3D version of Myst) and I loved it. I finally gave Microsoft (win98) the flick due to its constant crashing. RealMyst is not compatible with wine on Linux or so I have read on the net. I stumbled across the copy of Myst today and would love to get it up and running. I am not a gamer but funnily enough the only thing that I missed when I initially made the move to Linux was Myst ...I never finished it. Running Slack10 and installed wine from a gentoo CD that was on the front of a recent magazine that I bought. I have 'installed' Myst successfully but when I try to run it using wine, a dialog box Windows 95-98 style pops up to tell me that the disc in my drive is not the Myst disc. I have googled and have found scant information. Any tips please. Many thanks. |

Not sure this is of any help, but on Neverwinter Nights we have to change a line in one of the .ini files to point to /dev/cdrom in case we didn't do a full install. The game runs on native linux/opengl though. Maybe wine or the game itself needs something to point the cdrom to /dev/cdrom? I'm not familiar with running things with wine. Hope this helps you in any way. Nonsense. It's a lot easier, and a lot better, just to create a win98 partition from which to run your games. Only a total imbecile would use linux as a gaming platform. cordially, as always, rm -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: PGP 6.5.8 iQA/AwUBQaPEbuEckfDWS6x8EQJ8UQCfcKXM3+e8A0v6B1v158zXJf NBONgAn3lr 9yoJ0MFo5GIalx1Ladg3pGEx =urPP -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |
