| Hello all, I have moved from Slack-9.1 to -current. Everything well works well except printing does not work anymore. On 9.1 I was using CUPS, so decided to do use it on current as well. Setup CUPS using the browser method with the following data: Printer: myprinter Description: Deskjet 560c Device: Parallel port #1 Make: HP Deskjet Series CUPS v1.1 (en) I also installed espgs-7.07.1-i486-2.tgz (from current). I have loaded the modules: lp 6628 0 parport_pc 16196 1 parport 25064 1 [lp parport_pc] I try to print the test page from the CUPS admin page, this fails. The "Show active jobs" status page shows: "myprinter-9 Test Page root 15k cancelled at Sun 12 Dec 2004 09:53:18 AM EST" The /var/log/cups/error-log file mentions: Unable to convert file 0 to printable format for job 7! Hint: Do you have ESP Ghostscript installed? CancelJob: id = 7 ...etc I made sure that esp was installed, and bumped the log level to debug2 which means "print full debug info (?)". The log file produces a lot of debug info but no additional info for the error itself. Anyone know how to get CUPS working on *-current? Anyone know how to solve this problem? Thanks a lot. |

This may or may not help. I am a newbie to cups, but got my lan configured for it. I had a lot of errors like the one you just mentioned: -Check out your mime.types file. -At the end you'll find the application/octect-stream line to uncomment. Follow the directions there. It is at the very end. -Second, I had a hell of a time getting my 950c to print. -Just for the hell of it I told cups to use the 500c drivers, and whamo, it prints fine. Josh Beck |

Still get same error and nothing prints. Thanks for the tip though. - Maxwell |

The latter only seems to show up if you invoke gs directly to check what type of printer it knows about. |

Again tried to print test page as well lpr file.txt. But neither works. The error from error-log file: D [12/Dec/2004:16:49:37 -0500] AcceptClient: 8 from localhost:631. I would think that "esp ghostscript" is failing. It definitely is installed. How can I determine what CUPS is trying to do to a text file, and whether "esp ghostscript" is working or not? Thanks all |

If that brings up ghostscript then it's there and working and you have to work out why CUPS can't see it. An alternative is 'ls /var/adm/packages|grep script' but that won't tell you if it's on the path correctly or not. Oh yes, Slack 10 actually uses enscript, but that does work. |

I confirmed that the espgs package was installed and fiddled some more with my settings. Then I uninstalled and reinstalled espgs, and the printer started working fine. So something must have gotten corrupted somehow. |
