| Google groups is behaving very erratically at the moment with this NG but others are o.k. There are only new posts appearing after the troll deluge, but not all of them are showing up. I checked with Pan and they are all still there. I used free-text.usenetserver.com, which should be public. My ISP doesn't have a news server on the contract I have with them. However I do have a 2Mb DSL line, so google groups is far more convenient for me to use. |

London = London, Ontario b. HSE = "High Speed Edition" (actual trade name for Sympatico's high-speed dialup Internet service c. ppp3547903 = a 519 (London region) area code phone number d. sympatico.ca = perhaps the village idiot's ISP 4. all info in 3 was forged? it's all just guessing from me 5. if it was the village idiot, I'd like to see him expunged from usenet |

Somehow I doubt it. Well, I could give Sympatico the benefit of a doubt. Perhaps they were trying to clean up the mess their user(s) caused and went a little overboard on issuing cancels. Whatever it was, it even messed up Google's cache of certain recent informative threads, which is quite pathetic on several fronts. |

Thats definitely not what happened. The attacker did log on to a newsserver in Ukraine Tue, 4 Jan 2005 19:24:00 GMT from 65.93.34.40 london-hse-ppp3547903.sympatico.ca and within the next hour he deleted some 400 messages. Then he returned the next day Wed, 5 Jan 2005 12:35:03 +0000 (UTC) to the same server from 67.70.204.204 toronto-hse-ppp3907393.sympatico.ca and within the next half hour he deleted some extra 100 messages. -- Thomas O. If you still have the evidence of that, you should post it to news.admin.net-abuse.usenet Perhaps they can threaten sympatico.ca with the UDP (usenet death penalty) if they do not rectify this situation. Wouldn't that be nice if our troll finally stepped in it bad enough to be cut off permanently. According to the FAQ, repetitive rogue cancellations is grounds. -- Only trust pipesmoking penguins. |

The Usenet Death Penalty is a last resort for abusive sites. Certainly large rogue cancellations are grounds, but I wonder how long this activity will continue. If the cancellations do continue, then certainly I'll join in a call for a UDP of sympatico.ca (at least for the alt.os hierarchy), but I don't think trolls (even really nasty ones) alone are enough to call for a UDP. - -- It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise, Than for a man to hear the song of fools.
