| I'm baffled by the fact that this web site http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1 causes my cpu load to go to 100% and everything slows. I've tried both konqueror and mozilla (on slack 10.0). Normally, top shows my cpu at < 15%, but it's nearly 100% when I browse to this site. I get slowed down so much that I can't even run ps -aux to see what's running. Maybe it's some java script? Can someone running 10.0 (mozilla-1.7.3) with a fast cpu check it out and let me know what you think? TIA |

Its that marquee text that's floating up on top. If its your site, get rid of it. A java applet can get you the same results with must less overhead. |

When I ran top while the page was on my screen I got X using around 60% of CPU time and firefox using around 39%, so the page had to be hitting firefox and the X server pretty hard. When viewing a static page I didn't see X or firefox anywhere near the top of the top list. I didn't attempt to look at the html code for Grisoft's web page to figure out what it was doing. |

It coincides with the scrolling text. Opera, on the other hand, hardly makes Gkrellm raise a krell, which certainly raises my opinion of Opera. -- mbs |

I wish opera made better use of screen space though. That's why I don't use it. Too much space wated on large buttons that can't even spread across the top of the screen because the silly banner is taking up space, even if you have a wide screen the buttons take up too much vertical space. |
