| I'd love to RTFM ( as long as it was something relevant, my gray-matter HD is FULL! ). 9.0 or 9.1 had SuperProbe but (back then) I had to abandon trying to setup Linux because of flaky MOBO. Now I am reading for 3 weeks now and the only usefull think I had courage to try is FTP ( and by IP only with W2000) it almost works. Did find Slackware8Book.thml...... OH? Slackware 8? I installed both X and GNOME by running 'pkgtool' (I think that's ok as long as I didn't mess something up by subsequently running setup from install.zip package, Yesterday it looked like it was smart enough to pick up the existing 'fstab' which mounts: /dev/hdd7 /usr ext3 default 1 2 /dev/hdd8 /usr ext3 default 1 2 But I was not certain of my selections ( i pressed many cancels which turns out is cancel selecting and not cancel installing this 'series'. so why the 2 buttons??) After running it again this morning, deselecting all but the stuff in 'x' and 'xap' at the end it said that it apears that I have run out of diskspace ? Just checked again turns out that my FAT drive where install.zip/system is , is maxed out? ( I did go through the add partitions bit in the setup, Yesterday I was hitting enter on those windows since the list had them all, this morning I was selecting blank entries to 'continue' as the instructions say???) In any case assuming I have it all in the right places.... Someone please be so kind and point me in the right direction for X and GNOME (or KDE if it is easier to setup by a landslide)? AAAAAARRRRRGGGGGGGHHH (jumping out of the balcony is not an option I only live on 7th floor.) (Right now I have S3 PCI 4? 16Mb? or could Plug in VOODO 3 2000 definite 16Mb but that means another hummer.) If I missed some obvious README-V10.NOW not later I appologize. Cheers Sam. |

X was changed from Xfree86 to Xorg. Read the changelogs and man Xorg to get started. The confusing part is that some files and utilities have changed names, but they still work much like the old versions. |

Look for xorgconfig or xorgcfg or xorgsetup. Those will create the base configuration file for you. Although you might want to swap your current video card for that Voodo card, as the S3 one has been several depreciated by them. ---- Gregg drwho8 atsign att dot net |
