Default latest ATI drivers/usb flash disk & kernel 2.6.10

I've installed the newest drivers from ATI (I know, closed source, but i
want to wait a little bit more before try the r300 ones) patched to use
the 2.6.10 kernel but, for some reason, can't get acceleration. People
with other distros can, so, is a slackware problem or is just me?

Other issue is when i plug in my flash disk, used to be sdax, but now,
there isn't any sda at all... Hotplug was updated, could that be the
source of the problem?

kernel 2.6.10
Slackware current

Note: Damn, 2 months without slack, good to
be back to the slack world, sure missed it...

Heres the result of 2 months without linux... Forgot to see the obious
places... Strange, DRI is activated, but any opengl app is slow as hell.

Does glxinfo say "direct rendering: Yes"?

What kernel are you using? Self-compiled or from -current?
What does dmesh say when you plug the usb-flash?
Are usb-storage and sd-mod loaded?
Is udev running?
Do you perhaps have the UB (usb block device) driver configured? - this
driver handles usb-flash devices differently (they will be named /dev/uba1
etc..). And is also much slower than usb-storage + sd_mod.

ATI drivers issue solved (brother installed Mesa without telling me).

Usb flash disk:

It's UB allright... /dev/uba in the house.

it should not be. that driver is supposed to be crappy and slow.

All problems solved (install all x11 packages again, ati drivers and
recompiled the kernel, removing UB support).
Thanks to all that replied.
