| Hi, I am using tripwire on a Slackware 10 PC. System is fresh install so Slackware 10 has all the default settings: I'm trying to get tripwire to send email to root without having to have sendmail running. (I'm using tripwire 2.3.1-1 with paul herman's patch from http://www.frenchfries.net/paul/tripwire) Currently default install of Slackware has sendmail listening on port25 and queue runner running. If I disable these services then new mail to root@localhost doesn't appear in the spool. If I re-enable sendmail then the new mail appears in mail spool. (tripwire --test --email check sends email, but the email only appears in root if sendmail is running; otherwise the mail sent doesn't appear in the spool) I tried: mail -s "Test" root@localhost but the message only appears in spool if sendmail is running or restarted. Basically, as a minimum, I would like to get mail from Tripwire without sendmail running. What is the best way to achieve this with default install of Slack 10? OR Have sendmail running but not listening on port 25 for outside connections so only local mail works. This system is a single user system that will eventually be connected to cable modem. Any suggestions pertaining to this issue would be appreciated. Nic |
