I've done a fresh install of Slackware 10.1 on a SATA drive -- using
sata.i for kernel 2.4.29.

As always, sound does not work ("advanced Linux sound architecture" my
butt).

Not as always, gpm loses its mind after exiting KDE to console (works
fine after boot, start X, works fine, exit X, move mouse, insanity). I
have gpm starting with "gpm -m /dev/mouse -t imps2" and the relevant
stuff in xorg.conf:

Option "Emulate3Buttons" "False"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"

All this works just fine with Slackware 10.0 -- no jumping all over the
screen, hunky-dory. I seem to remember that there is a magic incantation
so this won't happen, but I cannot remember what it was.

Now, ALSA.

This thing actually made a sound when KDE started after installation --
both the start up and shut down sounds. Then I foolishly used alsaconf
and alsamixer and it's deader than a doornail.

I have raised the volumes to "70<>70" in every one of the AlsaMixer
settings (SPDIF Out always shows 00 and I'll be damned if I can figure
out what to do about that), done "alsactl store," all that. No joy, no
noise, no nuthin, dammit. I have tried fiddling with everything in KDE;
e.g., kmix, no joy, no noise, no nuthin, dammit.

The card is a Soundblaster Live! 24; it's reported by the system to be
"CA0106." I can't find any reference to that anywhere.

Other than blowing away ALSA and installing OSS on this thing (like I
did in 10.0), is there anybody in the whole wide world that has gotten
one of these Soundblaster Live! 24 things to actually work (and, please,
what did you do)?
