This is an off topic thread, and I thought to get it out of the NG by
discussing it via email. Emulators are not a Slackware subject,
although it appears that I was correct: readers here have answers

Is this not good netiquette?

No, it's not good netiqette. Questions to the NG should be answered by
the NG, not by private email. If done the correct way, other readers
will often have the answer to questions while searching the newsgroups.

With direct email, no-one will know!
