| hi all i've been looking for an alternative desktop/window manager to replace gnome. so far the best i found is xfce. kde i don't like for phylosophical reasons (though it's what i use now one problem that i think is slackware specific (or possibly installation-specific) is that when i start xfce, i gen no desktop picture/gradient and i cannot right click on the desktop. xfdesktop exists and if i run it, my desktop picture comes up, while i get lots of *** attempt to put segment in horiz list twice in the terminal xfdesktop is supposed to be started in /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.xfce but it doesn't. i tried creating my own .xinitrc and still nothing changes. i then tried to install xfce by myself using their .bin istaller and nothing changes. has anyone heard of such a problem? can you suggest something else to try? please help mig21 p.s. i use slackware 10.1 with no major updates (dropline, kde, etc) |

(disregard the "attempt to put segment in horiz list" warnings - they're a problem in one of the svg libraries (librsvg?) and are nonfatal. |

Start X, then in a terminal run xfdesktop. Set xfce to save session on logout. Logout.
