GUI browsers kill my connection

Having some problems with slackware 10 + gui browsers... for some
reason whenever I launch any browser (other then links, and lynks) my
connection will drop. It will stay up for maybe 5 minutes before it
becomes completely dead. I'm behind a router, firewall is off... never
had any problems on any other o/s... I can run links and lynx under
x(windowmaker) with no problems, but as soon as I open a gui browser
its gone. Any ideas?
