Default mysql problem

hi
I am using mysql4.1a in slackware linux version10.0 .I started the
mysql using /usr/libexec/mysqld using root. I got an error in
mysql.host table missing. Is there any problem installing this mysql
version in the 10.0 .pls guide me to solve this problem.

Please read contents of /etc/rc.d/rc.mysqld.

Any other messages in the error logs?

Did you install via package, or from source?

You might need to specify the data directories, also make sure the
permissions are set correctly.
