Hello all, well I just took a look, and find that the next incarnation
of Slackware is going to have some nice updates. Firstly KDE is being
updated, then GXine too, and some other things, the BEST part of all
this, is Linux 2.4.30 is next. Yes it looks official, that PV has made a
move up to the Linux 2.4.30 Kernel and we will see some improvements in
performance. If you want use gFTP and log into the FTP server and look
into the -current and you will see a lot of new Linux 2.4.30 files, alsa
and more. So I think maybe 10.2 or even 11.0 may be on the horizon for
release soon. For all you who think PV has not been doing much, this
tells me he has been working hard on improving Slackware. My next free
40.00 is going for the Slackware Disc set and books. Be well and may the
kernel be with you.

You "are" allowed to run -current you know.
I would not hold my breath for a new release.
You can if you'd like though.

I am running all the -current excepting any new Kernel. I have had too
many problems and am now finding my hardware is the issue, my main board
is going slowly. The On board IDE controller went and the usb too. good
thing I had the Promise TX2 Ultra 100 controller handy. In a week or so
I am supposed to be getting a new board and duron 1.8 processor. so that
will help.

Yes and more, lots of Updates, KDE has a new setting and some other
things Gxine and many more.

Are you sure there is such a performance bump with 2.4.30 ? :-D

My, would you say "2.6.12", I'd understand.
Then again, is KDE a "nice" update, considering not every slacker uses
it ? (my point is: KDE should not be considered a motive for releasing a
new Slackware version).

I hope PV refrain from 11 until he deems kernel 2.6 deserves making into
Slack -release.

Nothing from unusual, Slackware-Current almost always tracks the stable
kernel. Besides that, the latest 2.4.x kernels primarily have security and
stability updates.

Don't hold your breath. Even with a six month cycle between 10.1 and 11.0
we still have to wait till August for a new release, and a six month cycle
is really short for Slackware. The average has been about 8-9 months the
last few years. Past results are no guarantee for the future, but you can
make an educated guess .

Other hand, we have been gambling here abouts for more than ten good solid
ears, so it goes to show we won't ever know .
