Default Slack 10.1 bare.i to 2.6.11.12 Kernel ISA-PNP help needed

I have installed Slack 10.1 successfully using the bare.i kernel. I
recompiled this kernel to include support for SMP processors.
Reinstalled alsa for a creative labs isapnp AWE64 card, using the SBAWE
driver. Everything works perfectly. No problems at all.
When I attempt to compile/install the 2.6x series of the kernel, It
compiles with no issues and installs fine. Everything boots and
works... EXCEPT my ISA sound card. I have reinstalled alsa MANY times,
with OSS / wo OSS, compiled it directly into the kernel and tried using
modules. I compiled alsa from source and installed it that way, and
also installed alsa libs. Nothing.....
In trying to figure out what exactly is going on I have been doing a
lot of reading and it seems that the 2.6x series has a bug with ISAPNP?
Is this correct? It seems that the AWE64 will work if the ISAPNP is
fixed. I've looked at the alsa website, slackware site, and googled
relentlessly without success. Can someone provide a link to a
reference page on this issue or provide some type of pointers in the
direction I should go from here...

Thanks.

Not have AWE64, but a Vibra-16 ISA, compile driver into kernel, this
implies passing boot parameters to kernel so the card is recognised.

Also, I only use soundcard for analog audio so an old FM tuner works
with it, don't use any external ALSA libs, but rc.alsa is turned on,
I assume to set mixer/volume, been a while, 'just works'.

More info on box: http://scatter.mine.nu/test/boxen/peetoo/

excerpt /etc/lilo.conf:
....
# SoundBlaster Vibra-16 compiled in: sb=addr,irq,dma1,dma2 -> 0x220,5,3,5

image = /boot/bzImage-2.4.31-p2
optional
label = 2.4.31-p2
append = "hdb=ide-scsi sb=0x220,5,3,5"
....
image = /boot/bzImage-2.6.11.12b
optional
label = 2.6.11.12b
append = "sb=0x220,5,3,5"
....

ISAPnP is not worth a pinch of nanny-goat's poo.

Okay.... recompiled a new kernel, removed ISAPNP totally and compiled
in the OSS drivers. Still nothing... I tried updating my lilol.conf
file with the
append = "sb=0x220,5,3,5" info but alsaconf cannot find my card still.
ARGGGG!!!

Okay... I surrendered... downloaded the OSS drivers from 4front tech.
and wham bam... everything works perfectly now... all I can say about
it is WOW..

Slackware 10.1
2.6.11.12 on i686SMP
650 Megs of RAM... I thought my machine was getting pretty old, but
with Fluxbox and this kernel, it feels like I'm gonna get some more
time outta this setup.

All of the good games are written for windoze exclusively. You
don't need sophisticated sound or graphics on a linux workstation.
Simply dual boot and let windoze look after sound and graphics like
a good os should.

cordially, as always,
