Default Slack10.1 : problems with accented chars in some terminals

Hello,

I've jumped from Slack 9.1 to 10.1 and I have problems with rxvt
and all X-terminals derivative from it (aterm, multi-aterm) ; all
accented characters are displayed with a starnge combination
of à and another letter. By example,
é becomes é
è becomes Ã"

I've tried to compile myself aterm ; it works fine except for these
accented letters. All these terminals have the variable TERM=rxvt.
I didn't encountered that with my 9.1 ; has someone an idea ?

Thanks in advance,

What's your language setting? And also your font, is it default or custom?

You can find your language by running...

I've finally found the solution : on my current, Slack9.1, when you
choose the lang in gdm, the choice is saved in ~/.dmrc, and as
french-speaking I get

[Desktop]
Language=fr_FR

In the Slack10.1, the variable is completed by UTF8 (or something like
that, I type currently on another machine), and some applications
conflict with that. It was painfull to find, because it overloads
silently for X-applications the variables of the shell.

So, if I want a french environment without the troubles, I erase
manually the UTF extension in the file .dmrc
