Default support for a sony cyber shot s40 camera?

I am using slackware current with the 2.4.31 kernel and
try to get a Sony CyberShot S40 digital camera running.

Does anybody know if this camera is supported by linux
and if so how it can be used?

Try mounting it as a standard USB pendrive, otherwise
http://gphoto.sourceforge.net/proj/l...o2/support.php

Do yourself a favor, and get a cheap USB "card reader" for the media
stick. I use that method with the Memory Stick from my Sony CyberShot P72.

Thanks for you reply but when I plug in the camera it is not
recognised by the usb-storage module so I am not able to mount
it.

In USB normal mode dmesg shows:

hub.c: new USB device 00:02.2-3, assigned address 8
usb.c: USB device 8 (vend/prod 0x54c/0x10) is not claimed by any active driver.

In USB mode PTP dmesg shows:

hub.c: new USB device 00:02.2-3, assigned address 12
usb.c: USB device 12 (vend/prod 0x54c/0x4e) is not claimed by any active
driver.

Oke may that will be probably the best solution if the gphoto2 things
also does not work.
Do you known if all these cheap USB card-readers are supported
by Linux?

Mounting did not work as the camera is not recognised
by the usb-storage module.
I will try the ghoto option.

RTFM of your camera, goto SETUP options and
USB Connect - USB protocol: PTP, Normal, or PictBridge

you can mount it or use PTP (Picture Transfer Protocol)
http://ptp.sourceforge.net/

Hmmm. Is hotplug running? If not check the permissions
on /etc/rc.d/rc.hotplug and see if it is disabled.

I have not been able to mount it as a file system.
I can download all images with gphoto2 using PTP mode.

Thanks for all suggestions.
