What modem are you using? I'm using a Speedstream 5100, supplied by SBC, and it isn't necessary to deal with pppoe. That's handled internally by the modem. Just use netconfig to set-up eth0 with dhcp. Then, open a browser to http://192.168.0.1 and follow along. |

From your description it's also likely that it does DHCP, so if Slack brings up your ethernet card properly, just choose that and be on your way. That, or edit /etc/rc.d/rc.inet1.conf (this is from memory) and figure out how it *really* works. |

Like I said in my other reply(before I read this post). The modem uses dhcp to issue IP etc. Just run netconfig and set up for dhcp. |
