We've seen a lot of variability in tar functionality over the years. It's not unlike herding cats. Installing the latest slack distribution's version has usually met the needs of most users. However... as tar is 'improved' it seems to change. So, we still keep an older version around in the root directory for root to use for system maintenance purposes. It's not the latest or up to datest (it's 1.12). But, it always does what we need it to do. ScottJ |
