| Hello, I'm trying to install slak 10.1 on PC Sempron with SIS5513 chipset. With all cdrom kernels booting from cd stops with a kernel panic at chipset probing. So I can't install slak. Using a hdd with slak installed and kernel recompiled without sis5513 support in a different machine and connected with this sempron machine it always stops when probing sis5513 with kernel panic. Already tried with slak 10.0 cd sets and slak 9.1 cd sets. I think may be an incompatibily with prebuilt slack kernels. Have you experience about this? thank in advance bye, paolo |

I've misunderstood your post! I've read Slack 10.2 instead of 10.0. My previos advice is valid only with slack 10.2... 10.0 have not any 2.6 kernel... Ste |

Yes, it does, but it is an old one (of course): Wed Jun 16 22:34:59 PDT 2004 testing/packages/linux-2.6.7/kernel-generic-2.6.7-i486-1.tgz: Upgraded to Linux 2.6.7. testing/packages/linux-2.6.7/kernel-headers-2.6.7-i386-1.tgz: Upgraded to 2.6.7 kernel headers. testing/packages/linux-2.6.7/kernel-modules-2.6.7-i486-1.tgz: Upgraded to Linux 2.6.7 kernel modules. testing/packages/linux-2.6.7/kernel-source-2.6.7-noarch-1.tgz: Upgraded to Linux 2.6.7 kernel source. (cut from the 10.0 ChangeLog). PS: on the CD's of 10.2, the new kernel is NOT in testing/packages/linux-2.6.* anymore, it is - on CD 2 - directly in "linux-2.6.13", so no "testing/packages" in front of it. Actually, the whole "testing" dir has disapeared on the CD's (at least, on the images, I didn't receive the real CD's yet). The Slackware FTP site still has the "testing" subtree, though. -- ************************************************** ****************** ** Eef Hartman, Delft University of Technology, dept. So I can't install slak. News about my problem. I've tried with an old slak 9.0 and it works fine. Probing chipset don't goes in kernel panic and installation can be complete. Other attempts with slak 9.1, 10.0 got the same result of 10.1: kernel panic! I've not idea what's going wrong.... bye, paolo |

| I got the same problem with FC4, Knoppix, DSL and Kubuntu always whe probing the SIS55513, it shows information about the 2 controllers an then a kernel oops. Have you found anything in the mean time?
