Default Slackware 10.2, Kernel 2.6.13 & Speedtouch 550 - FYI

Hello Everyone,

For anyone who has a silver speedtouch 550 dsl modem, I can confirm
this works with Slackware 10.2 and a stock slackware 2.6.13 kernel from
testing. I installed a full Slackware 10.2, installpkg'd kernel 2.6.13
with modules and source. I followed the instructions here;

http://www.linux-usb.org/SpeedTouch/slack/

Which worked great. As far as I could tell, you can safely ignore the
kernel compiling instructions; the slackware 2.6.13 stock kernel I used
needed nothing doing to it. Also, I didn't install the versions of
Linux-ATM or PPP it mentions. I did have the firmware and extractor in
/home/ftp from previous attempts in 10.1 which lead me nowhere, along
with the firmware. So, I just extracted the firmware, added my secrets
files, and the peers/speedtch file for pppoa.

This is the standard free modem most people in the UK get given when
they sign up for DSL, so for me personally this is very exciting, as I
can now switch people to Slackware without having to wrestle with third
party drivers for the modem! I did a little dance around the room last
night when I saw those DNS servers scroll past...
