| Hi, Just trying to install Slack 10.2 on my old HP Pavilion 5442, where 10.1 ran without problems. Configured X as usual: by hand. startx starts X OK, everything is fine, but the thing is: when I exit from X, I get a *blank* screen. I mean: blank. Pearl white. And everything freezes. Can't even kill the X server via Ctrl-Alt-Backspace. Only thing left to do is Ctrl-Alt-Delete, where the PC reboots invisibly. I tried a few things. Disabling the framebuffer. Recompile the kernel with and without support for the graphic card. The thing is: configuration seems OK for starting X and running with it. Only the darn thing won't stop correctly. I'm really clueless. Suggestions warmly welcome. Niki Kovacs -- I'm not as think as you stoned I am. |

I did a Google Groups search for 'X exit "white screen"' and had the following thread appear: <http://groups.google.co.uk/group/comp.os.linux.x/browse_thread/thread/b2dd2ad0a51c9f89/> -- Mark Hill |
