Default why do i have /dev/vmmon and /dev/vmnet*?

i've just installed slackware 10.2 and i'm curious why i see vmmon and
vmnet* device files in /dev? i know they are used by vmware which i
have and plan to install, but i haven't installed it yet and i was
surprised to see these files already there.
thanks,
ken
